UPWARD FLAG FOOTBALL RAIN POLICY
The following is our Upward Flag Football League's policy as it relates to rain and thunderstorms. In simple, it is extremely rare that we receive heavy rains for prolonged periods of time during the period in which our 8 weeks of football games are scheduled, thus it is our policy to evaluate games on a per hour-block basis to determine if games in that hour-block will proceed or will be delayed or canceled. Games will be assumed to be scheduled to proceed, in accordance with the game schedule, until coaches/parents are notified by Upward Leadership that a game in a particular hour-block has been canceled due to heavy prolonged rain (light sprinkling will not constitute a reason for game cancellation). Upward Leadership are the only individuals authorized to finalize a decision for each hour-block of games.
RAIN DELAYS:
Upward Leadership may take a possible 10-minute delay of a game in a given hour-block due to heavy rains, but after 10 minutes a call will be made regarding that current game to proceed with the scheduled game or to cancel the game due to a heavy downpour. A 10-minute window is the only cushion allowable because of other games scheduled back-to-back on that same field.
RAINOUTS:
If Upward Leadership cancels games in a specific hour-block due to heavy prolonged rain, those games are CANCELED and will not be rescheduled for a later date in the season. It is for this reason that Upward Leadership takes game cancellation very seriously, and thus takes all known variables into consideration before making the determination to cancel a particular game/set of games in a specific hour-block.
LIGHTNING / THUNDERSTORMS:
In the event of thunderstorms, the field will be cleared and games on all fields will be delayed for a short period, after which a determination by Upward Leadership will be made to proceed (if thunderstorms have passed) or cancel games for that particular hour-block. For games in the following hour-block, Upward Leadership will determine, at the time of the scheduled games, to proceed, delay or cancel games for that particular hour-block, based on the current state of the weather.
Here are several safety measures you can take to avoid getting hit by lightning:
Seek shelter at the first sign of a thunderstorm.
If possible, get off the field.
Do not stand under a lone tree. This is where most people are injured or killed.
Stay away from water and metal objects.
God bless,
